What is Kapalbhati? It is an element of the purification system in Hatha Yoga, known as Shatkarma (Six Actions). The word Kapabhati is derived from the two Sanskrit words that are: Kapal, meaning "Skull'' and Bhati, meaning "Illuminating" or "Shining." As for pranayama, it is a breathing technique.

To put it simply, Kapalbhati Pranayama is a technique that is used to cleanse the mind through strong exhalations of air.

It is crucial to follow the right steps thoroughly in order to gain the complete benefits of Kapalbhati. This article will guide you through the proper steps to perform kapalbhati. First, find a quiet place away from all the distractions and sit cross-legged with your spine straight, shoulders relaxed and palm facing the sky. Now! Start by taking a deep breath in and exhaling forcefully as you quickly pull your stomach inwards. Keep other parts of your body still while doing so. Keep repeating the inhale and quick exhale 20 times to complete one round. After completing a round, relax with your eyes closed for a minute and repeat the process again. Perform 1-3 rounds each day and increase them as you feel comfortable.

If practiced consistently and properly, kapalbhati can have a huge impact on daily life. It not only benefits mental health but also promotes physical fitness. However, people with heart problems, back problems, hypertension, and pregnant or menstruating women should avoid practicing kapalbhati as it may affect them negatively.
